The Teachers Service Commission has allocated one teacher per class to teach junior secondary school . Teachers will be assigned schools based on the number of 7th grade classes that a school has. The junior secondary is set to start in January 2023, with the first class being grade 7. Candidates who just did the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment in grade 6 will be joining grade 7 in junior secondary school.
There are 30,550 Grade 7 classes across the nation, and every class will have a teacher beginning January 2023, according to TSC legal officer Cavin Anyuor.
“We have assigned 1,000 teachers if the county has 1,000 courses,” he stated. Anyuor stated that the Treasury’s budget allocation determines the quantity of teachers.TSC chair Jamleck Muturi declared that the commission will retool teachers in primary schools to be compliant with the new competence-based curriculum.
This, according to Muturi, aims to guarantee that there are enough teachers in every school. Teachers who are in elementary school but are eligible to teach in junior secondary will be redistributed.
