Among the most sanctioned countries in the world, Russia surpasses all of them due to President Vladimir Putin’s invasion to Ukraine.
At the moment the sanctions stands at 5530 compared to the previously leading country which has 3616.
The tech companies have been forced to suspend their services and operations in the country due to the continued invasion that is now on the 13th day.
The tech companies that are perceived to side with Putin’s regime are being criticised by international consumers.
During a Video call with the US lawmakers, the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky requested American companies to every business in Russia.
Here is a list of those companies that have suspended their services in Russia.
1. HP and Intel
This was the largest supplier of PCs to the country. At the moment, it has stopped it’s supplies to the country due to it’s invasion to Ukraine.
The company has promised to continue standing with the people of Ukraine and the world at large in calling for an immediate stop of this war and call for peace.
2. Visa, Mastercard and American Express
These companies halted their services due to the Russia’s invasion to Ukraine.
In a statement, the mastercard company halted it’s operations due to the current and uncertain economic environment.
However, the central bank for Russia said the visa and mastercards products issued by local banks will continue working until the expiry date.
3. Microsoft
This gigantic company termed the invasion of Russia to Ukraine as unlawful, unprovoked and unjustified. Therefore, they suspended all the new sales of their products and services in Russia.
The company is working keenly to ensure Russia does not tamper with Ukraine’s websites.
4. Netflix
It is one of the companies that have paused it’s operations in Russia whereby they’ve stopped releasing new movies as well as registering any new customers.
5. Samsung
This is a bigger company which has almost 30 per cent smartphone market share in the country. It has also halted all the exports of the products to Russia.
6. Apple
Apple as a company dealing with iPhones has limited it’s services and removed some of the apps like RT News and Sputnik news apps from their app store outside the country.
7. TikTok
It has suspended its operations in the country due to spread of the country’s fake news that limits the right information from being shared regarding the invasion of Ukraine.
8. Google
The company has paused google ads from showing in Russia hence, suspending all the advertisements.
9. Facebook and Twitter
The country has restricted access to Twitter as well as blocking Facebook and Instagram to control any news about it’s invasion to Ukraine in what they term as ‘special military operation.’
The companies were erasing posts shared by the users that are associated with Russian media which has been pushing false news involving Ukraine and Russia.
