For a student to get accreditation by the board as an engineer, he/she must have been enrolled in an accredited engineering courses in kenya for a maximum period of five years.
The Engineers Board of Kenya is the only body that is given full mandate to accredit engineering degree programs in kenya. This is done before universities are given an okay to offer the programs to students.
Accreditation of these programs being offered in universities is mainly done to assess adequacy and relevance of the programs.
This helps the Engineers Board of Kenya to easily identify the engineering programs that meet the accreditation criteria.
After graduation, students who finishes these programs will have received an education that satisfies the requirements for registration as engineers who are qualified.
It is good to note that accreditation by the board is only done on engineering programs and not departments or faculties.
