According to the teachers service commission, Competency Based Curriculum has trained 228,000 primary school teachers.

To ensure smooth transition of learners, Kenya institute of current Development has already created a curriculum for students in grades from one to ten.

Even with these progress, there has also been many concerns that have been expressed about the introduction of junior secondary education, which includes grades 7 and 8.

Some of these issues raised have been justified by George Magoha, the cabinet secretary for education

As per to the cabinet secretaries under education ministry,Professor Magoha, a ten-month training program is meant for teachers who will be in charge of the forthcoming seventh grade.

Equally, the KICD Syllabus designs for Grades One to Ten are finalized, according to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.

Now the CBC in junior secondary school will be comprised of grades 7, 8, and 9 in 2023.

After students who are preparing for their exams pass their sixth-grade exams , then they will be promoted to junior secondary school.

The new 2-6-3-3-3 CBC system, has been considered to be a game changer .

However, it will has become unfortunate considering the fact that for some primary school teachers, the bright ray of hope has gone off.

This is after comes the TSC’s announcement that only teachers who scored a C+ or higher on their KCSE exam would be assigned to junior secondary school.

Now those Teachers who have a C plain will not be able to teach the specified grade.

Then this therefore means that P1 teachers who scored a C (plain) in the KCSE will not be permitted to teach in junior secondary.

The teachers employer, i.e Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has finally settled the debate on which teachers will attend to learners who will join junior secondary schools at Grade 7, 8 and 9.

In the past, the commision had raised hope for thousands of primary school teachers with various higher academic qualifications but have failed to secure promotions after coming of the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).

Some of these primary school teachers had the following qualifications;

Diploma and Degree in Special Needs Education

Diploma and Degree in Early Childhood Development Education

Diploma and Degree in Education (Primary option)

Diploma in Education (Secondary option)

Degree in Education (Secondary option) but lacking C+ at KCSE or C+ in teaching subjects
