Every School to Nominate Six Teachers To Attend April TSC Training using the following criteria

TSC has finalized its plans on the training of 60,000 teachers intends on the CBC, Competency-Based Curriculum in advance of its implementation in junior secondary schools in January 2023.

 

According to a circular issued by TSC Chief Executive Nancy Macharia on Friday, teachers targeted are those in Grades 7, 8, and 9 from public regular and special needs schools and those in private institutions.

The first phase in this training will be focusing on language teachers, pure science teachers, applied science teachers,the mathematics teachers, the humanities teachers and those teaching technical subjects

 

In a statement macharia said ,,,“The cascade model requires that the master trainers to train the trainers of trainers (ToTs)and thereafter offer professional support during the face-to-face teachers training at county and sub-county levels,” .Dr. Nancy macharia further added that the training would start on April 25 and end on May 13.

 

All master trainers will physically train the trainers of trainees for four days.

 

As indicated in the TSC circular, the trainers of trainees will then train teachers face-to-face for four days while strictly adhering to the Ministry of Health Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

 

The trainers of trainees training will take place from May 2 to 6 as the teacher training will begin on May 9 and end on May 13.

In this training,each secondary school will be required to nominate six teachers from the languages, pure sciences, applied sciences, mathematics, humanities, and technical subjects.

 

Also English, Kiswahili, foreign and indigenous languages, and Kenya Sign Language instructors will be trained in integrated science, biology, chemistry, physics, and health education for the pure sciences.

 

Also Agriculture, home science, and computer studies are among the subjects taught in applied sciences. Other teachers will be trained in social studies (citizenship, geography, history,) religious studies, and life skills while studying humanities.

The prevocational and pre-career subjects include technical and creative arts, business studies, music, sports and physical education,physical education, as well as home science.

 

The trainers of trainees would be subject tutors from teacher training colleges who are panellists with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), curriculum support officers, and sub-county TSC directors with a bachelor’s degree in education and a two-subject teaching combination, she added.

 

The secondary school teacher champions from the subjects to be trained will also be included.

 

The CBC has been taught to 229,292 primary school teachers and more than 1,000 students have been transferred to high school in preparation for the junior secondary rollout.
