Students seeking to join universities and colleges this year have all reasons to smile after the Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement services lowered qualifications for some courses being offered in various universities and colleges across the country.
Students will be required to choose subjects that will enable them to meet minimum requirements for some degree courses.
According to education Reforms and developments and demands from job market, the government has introduced new courses in the job market to cater for different dynamics.
The most privileged ones are those students who would wish to pursue bachelor’s degree in education, fashion and design , agriculture among others.
Grades for subjects like mathematics, biology and others will be lowered or substituted with other subjects.
The chief executive officer for kuccps, Mercy Wahome said, they considered areas like agriculture and education whereby many students are being affected by the minimum subject requirements to enrol in universities.
Students who will sit for their exams in March this year and be placed to different universities and colleges will be the ones to taste the fruit.
According to Wahome, home science will also be among those subjects that will be considered for students who want to pursue degree courses in fashion and design whereby this will be the first time to lower cluster Points for that subject.
She further said that, in the new ammendments, kiswahili will become an alternative subject for English to students who would wish to pursue bachelor of education science.
For those students who will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education arts, maths will not be considered a minimum subject requirement.
On the other hand, students who will pursue degrees courses in agribusiness and agricultural economics, biology has been considered a minimum requirement whereby the points have been lowered from a C+ to C plain.
